Anxiety and Gag Reflex: Anyone Else?

I'm really new here but just had a question.. anyone else's anxiety trigger your gag reflex? I have been gagging sooo much randomly this week to the point I took a pregnancy test lol. I am not pregnant so I googled and had no clue that gagging could be related to anxiety.

I experience this quite often and it is horrible! I’m glad to know I’m not the only one. I wish I knew how to stop it 😥

Yeah it can effect any of your reflexes and make you nauseous/effect your digestion on top of it. I was always told my morning nausea was anxiety bc it used to happen every school day, now that I have nothing to cause anxiety in the mornings that's clearly wrong, but I accepted that bc it makes me nauseous during other situations.

I've found some ginger/ginger tea, lemon, and/or mint helps a little bit

Yes but I also have gastritis! What helps me the most when anxiety starts to mess with my stomach is laying off coffee/caffeine and having ginger flavored TummyDrops (on Amazon). If you’re ever in a pinch, smelling sterile alcohol wipes also knocks out nausea/gagging. ERs use them all the time and there’s been research proving that they work, but nobody’s sure why!

Thanks for the tips! I have noticed caffeine plays a roll. It doesn't make me anxious but does increase my gagging!

It’s that darn vagus nerve 😂 I’ve heard the humming can also help with this.
