Advice on Managing Anxiety at Work

Hi, new here. I have bad anxiety when it relates to work, not really much else. I’m in therapy and it’s helping but I’m not working. Living with my sister with my bf. I want to go back to work but I’m scared I won’t be able to control my anxiety when I start again. My psych gave me Klonopin and haven’t taken it since prescribed 2 months ago. I’m scared to take it. Especially when I don’t need it. Since I don’t have a job yet I don’t really find a time to use it to try it out. Any advice? I know it’s addictive and that’s what I’m scared of.

I take half a pill when I feel my anxiety setting in, so .25mg. Its enough to take the edge off without calming me to be tired. Try half a pill and see how you feel.

I’ve taken it for over 20 years! I’m not addicted to it. I need it to control my panic attacks. I’ll be on it for the rest of my life. I talked to my psychiatrist about it and he said to think about it like diabetes medicine. If you need it you should take it.

I’m also not working because of my physical and mental health - so you aren’t alone! I know there’s a lot of guilt with that, though. But, I have been prescribed klonopin for years for my panic. And I find it very helpful for that and I’ve had no problem with the addictive qualities! (I take it as needed) But if you are nervous talk to your doctor about another medication! Your comfort is very important :)

Talk to your doctor or therapist about your concerns. I had and still have I suppose really bad anxiety that I couldn't do anything at all. I take Klonopin and after a few days of my body getting used to it I'm good as gold. My anxiety decreased so much that it's really freeing. I was able to get my license and now I drive everywhere by myself. And that is just one example of the medicine working for me. But I recommend talking to a professional on how you feel about the medication.

i was so afraid of being addicted to it, too! my psych np was really supportive of my concerns - so i recommend raising that concern with your provider and if they don’t seem to care about your concern yet are willing to prescribe it… try to find a new provider who does care! mine put it like this: i need this med, for a little while, to function. the same as anyone who takes any medication does. without it, i was not a functioning adult in society. with it, i was able to work through my extreme anxiety and back to becoming a real person (what my definition of one is.) we’re now working on lowering it with the eventual goal of only taking it for extreme situations - dentist appts, flights, etc. so tl;dr i guess my advice is to convey your concerns to your provider and if they aren’t hearing you, find a new provider. taken safely and with support, benzos can be life changing for those of us with extreme life-limiting anxiety!
