Antidepressant Side Effects: Severe Highs and Lows

got back on wellbutrin in January and was recently put on zoloft as well. at first I noticed a huge spike in my mood and energy (but things were also changing in my life like crazy). as time has gone on I've noticed severe highs and lows as well as my suicidal ideation kind of "getting louder" if that makes sense. obvi I need to chat with my psychiatrist, but like... has any one else had this problem

Wellbutrin sucked for me tbh. But right now I'm on prozac and Hydroxozine. Together they seem to help pretty well, at least compared to everything else I've tried. For me, Hydroxozine kind of calms my mind from intrusive thoughts. It helps to quite my brain and slow it down so I'm not constantly thinking. And I've been in Prozac for about a year and a half now, and its one of the better ones for me. It had less side effects compared to most meds I've been on.

Wellbutrin does not work for me at all. I had to stop taking it because it was making my symptoms much much worse. IMHO anything that affects the chemical in your brain is going to have ups & downs. If the downs are too much then definitely talk to your doctor. I'm now in sertraline & buspar & finally doing better

right, I contributed the ups & downs to chemical change at first but the more intense they seemed to feel the more worried I got. I did leave my psychiatrist a message today and will hopefully be getting this all sorted out very soon!! Glad to hear you've found a combination that works for you 😀

I increased my dose of wwlbutrin and decreased my dose of ssri and that helped a bit

I was on Zoloft years ago but not Wellbutrin. On Zoloft I had a HUGE spike in suicidal thoughts, now in on sertraline it's working pretty well so far. I hope everything goes well for you!

you know sertraline is just the generic name for zoloft, right. I'm glad it is working for you this time

I’ve been on the Welloft combo before as well, you should definitely talk to your psychiatrist about it but I experienced something similar at first and it calmed down as I adjusted to the meds. I did end up switching my SSRI from Zoloft to Celexa though and I like that a bit more

I will definitely keep the Celexa in mind when I speak with her, thank you!
