When I got diagnosed at 15, my therapist was horrible. I can't really describe it, but she made me feel so trapped and useless. I lied and said my anxiety got better to get off the anxiety meds just to get away from her.

There are a lot of anti anxiety medications that are not addictive. I would go for it. Your family sounds ignorant.

Meds are ok. Herbs are ok. Meditation as silly as sometimes it sounds it really can make a giant difference with the anxiety a lot of people think that if you're meditating you have to be sitting on a big pillow with incense and crystals and talking out loud and that is not true I meditate every day by simply laying in bed under the covers for an hour clearing my head trying to do nothing but focus on my body weighing down on the bed and my pillow and not falling asleep it really helps clear my mind and makes me feel refreshed that refreshing feeling can help you handle much more than when you're feeling overwhelmed and your brain is foggy. I am diagnosed bipolar disorder with PTSD so I definitely understand the anxiety problem I do currently take medication for mine but I take it in compliments of the meditation and there are days that I can skip my medication because of me meditating so just something to maybe look into do some research for but if your family is very anti-meds you need to keep in mind that this is your body and your life and they are not there to make that decision for you you need to do what's best for your own health

@anotherbipolargirl I'm sorry but I don't think people with bipolar depressions are supposed to go off their medication

You should talk to your therapist about getting on anxiety meds. I take buspirin and Ativan for my bad anxiety and horrible panic attacks.

Next month I will be 29. I was a teenager when I first had real depressionwith anxiety and I was too ashamed to think I needed medication for help. Around 25 I realized it wasn't going away and something needed to change and I gig help. Take into account your individual situation and try not to think of what others will think because at the end if the day you have to do what's best for you.

@Porcelain Yeah, I totally get that. For me I made myself feel bad that I was struggling with various different mental illnesses and had a hard time accepting the intensity they would get to be sometimes. It made me feel like smth was wrong with me, in a way that I needed to be ashamed about, but there's nothing to be ashamed of struggling with something. For me it helped me to reframe it as, you're not gonna give yourself shit for having a broken leg and you should get help for it, physical illnesses and mental illnesses are similar in that respect.

Take the medication 💊 There is no shame it that It takes a strong person to realize they need help. And the medication will make you feel better

Honestly, it is up to you as far as the decision goes. For impacts I really feel like it often depends on the person. For example, for me, going on anti-anxiety meds has helped me a lot. It might be worth at least talking about it with your doctor just to see what their thoughts are.

Try a happy medium and look into herbal supplements. They’re herbs, just as natural as oregano and basil; but they work like pharmaceuticals. Some people benefit greatly from CBD oil, but there’s a lot of herbs for each person. Just research which ones are best for your condition, it’s always worth a try 😊 At the end of the day it’s about what you think you need, but it is easier to wean off of herbal supplements versus prescriptions.

@Raven_Rose thank you so much!! this is really helpful! i have cbd supplements now but i feel they make me more anxious, not sure if its just my anxiety becoming a positive feedback loop or something

@pointblank there are a wide array of herbs that can be just as helpful. Just research your condition. I’m no pro but I would be happy to try and help. Ashwagandha, Kava Kava and Valerian are supposed to help a lot with anxiety, I have yet to try them but my friends swears by two out of three of them. Also it sounds wacky but a vitamin deficiency can make you feel horrible, D3 and B12 have actually helped my mood quite a bit!
