Amitriptyline Side Effects and Chronic Fatigue

Hello! I was matched with you recently regarding Amitriptyline and its side effects. It’s been making my chronic fatigue much worse, and I do almost nothing but sleep now.

Hello! The same thing happened to me when my dosing was too much for me too quickly :) I went up to three pills a night and it had me slumped. It made me sleep in super late and feel too tired to be able to get out of bed. You can always wait it out and see! If it’s not working out but you still need that dosing, you can talk to your doctor about halving your pills and increasing in increments so it doesn’t effect you as much. That’s what mine had me do at first until i got used to it! Just know that it gets better and you’ll feel the effects less as time goes on, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should be struggling now!

Thank you everyone for your answers! I’m going to give it one more week then talk to my doctor about it if my side effects keep up.

I started with amitriptyline but had to be changed to protriptyline. It’s almost the same medicine but with me, slim to no side effects like the amitriptyline. I felt like a zombie on the amitriptyline. It also made me super constipated. Protriptyline doesn’t bother me.

I would talk to your doctor honestly I know there other medications they can put you on that won’t make you so drowsy I was on a couple before I took amitriptyline

I do take it before bed, but the drowsiness seems to run throughout the day.

Hi I’m sorry to hear that! I do get sleepy but I take it at night time before bed. Do you take it at that time or a different time?
