Struggling with Amitriptyline Side Effects

This is only my 3rd day taking Amitriptyline and it’s making me sooo sleepy! I’m apparently taking a low dose 10mg .. it’s knocking me out for hours however when I wake up I’m feeling more tired than I was before taking it.. even after I’ve slept all of these hours .. I just feel out of it and exhausted.. I’ve been woke laying in bed for and hour dreading getting up..

I also tried amitryptaline (sorry can’t spell) and had the same reaction extremely drowsy the next day and I already feel fatigued so I stopped taking it and stuck with duloxetine alone. Its so hard to find a medication that helps without causing other problematic side effects 😥

It made me feel so much worse. I took myself off of it. I have been taking Cymbalta also I think it helps a little

if you don’t mind me asking.. how long were you taking it before you stopped? We are just doing a trial run for 2 weeks so see how it makes me feel.

I didn't think that amitriptyline was still being prescribed for FM. I had the same reaction to it when given 24 years ago when first diagnosed. Since then, Celexa, Cymbalta, and Savella are being used. I've been on generic Cymbalta (generic is duloxetine), for several years. It blocks pain perception in the brain and does not cause drowsiness. I take it in the morning. I'd talk to your doctor and ask to switch to it. Much better than Amitriptyline for FM. Also helps with anxiety.

I’ve tried those and has side effects from them so now we’re trying this and I’m not liking it… Cymbalta made me extremely sleepy and caused headaches!! We are trying the Amitriptyline and I’m waiting on prior authorization for my insurance to cover aerobics therapy, massages and yoga.
