I've been taking Effexor XR for a few years now and it's finally worn off. I'm going next week to look into other medications and wondering what medications are similar to this that I can try. I need to get on something very soon. It's effecting my relationship and everything.

I’ve been on Effexor XR for almost 20 years. I took a one year break from it - it took a full 3 months to wean off of it - I didn’t like myself without it and I couldn’t read more than a paragraph without losing my concentration. It was awful! I feel very blessed to have been put on the right medication for me on the first try.

Effexor never really worked for me and it was a nightmare to get off of! Even with tapering I still heard songs playing in the middle of the night that no one else could hear (blue grass and monk chamber music) I was on prozac for awhile then I switched to wellbutrin and it's doing well especially when we added seroquel.

Coming off of it is definitely the most awful thing. I get the brain zaps so horribly bad just missing a dose. Im not looking forward to that part.

@Shadow_Dahlia did you have bad reactions when starting as well or just coming off? I’ve heard so many people talk about how horrible it is to come off of it, it makes me worried about having to do that someday but it never gave me any symptoms going on it like other prescriptions had. It’s really the only one so far I can do that works without a lot of side effects I just wish thinking of stopping it someday wasn’t so scary sounding!
