Has anyone ever tried folic acid metabolizers for depression? I really struggled with medication and am looking for alternatives.

I also take magnesium and I take iron. It definetly helped but I'm hoping it I'm able to metabolize folic acid it will boost my levels of it. Because I eat enough and definetly a lot of folic acid but I just can't absorb it. It may have to do with my celiac disease but I'm not sure.

I went in with a parent and I was honest. But basically I had a series of extreme reactions to medications. I took Lexapro for two years but it stopped working so I switched to Cymbalta, which made me extremely depressed. I then tried Abilify, which have me hour long nose bleeds. After that I tried Latuda, which again made me extremely depressed. I then took Genesight to see which medications would react best with my genomes and through that also found out I can't metabolize folic acid very well. There is a lot of evidence that depression may be related to low folic acid levels because folic acid helps the body produce and modulate serotonin. Thats why I'm asking. Medications are definetly not the right option for me at this point. On top of making me suicidal, Cymbalta gave me such bad withdrawal I was throwing up. So I'm looking for alternatives.

@Bus do you think you're celiac disease affects the medications so that you can't handle them? And if by chance you are too thin then you may not be able to handle medications cuz a lot of them could hurt your stomach. To have physical health issues is sometimes hard to juggle and fix and then aggravates the depression.

@Bus I hope you can find a professional who's knowledgeable and trustworthy who can help you. Do certain foods make you feel depressed more after you eat them? Maybe you could do some research or see if the doctors can give good suggestions on what things to eat to help with depression. Many do say to equality protein and I prefer bean and cheese and it does make me feel better and of course with hot sauce. But I also think the magnesium makes me feel good and I must be lacking in that

Also if a medication seems like you're overmedicated you can ask if it could be tweet down or cut in half or have a lesser dosage than to totally give up on the medication.

Why are you having problems with medications? If you don't answer all the questions 100% honestly and you don't take a family member with you who knows you really well to make sure the answers are correct then it would be hard to get the right medication match to you. Also some medications May conflict with our medications there are for our physical health. It's easier for doctors to diagnose depression but if they're not given all the information and people may be misdiagnosed and they're actually bipolar which requires different kinds of medication.

The vitamin itself is good for seniors and their brain but I don't know about mental illness. A lot of the elderly people get dementia or Alzheimer and I believe this vitamin is supposed to help delay some symptoms
