Latuda is a great starting medication for bipolar disorder. It has a low risk for weight gain but is only available in brand. Ability is also great and is available in generic, but mostly acts as a stronger mood stabilizer than Carbamazepine, Divalproex/Vaproic Acid, and Lamotrigine. Vraylar is stronger than Latuda and acts similarly but can be dangerous if you experience Tardive Dyskinesia because it has such a long half life and therefore takes a week or so to be eliminated completely. Zyprexa and Risperdal along with Seroquel aren't necessarily the best for keeping weight down and lipid levels normal even though they are available in generic.

Vraylar changed my life for the better. You can even get genetically tested to determine if it will be effective for you.
