Benefits of Allergy Testing and Process

I have never had an allergy test, but I know certain things make my skin get very itchy. what are the benefits to getting an allergy test? what's the process like? (I've been taking an antihistamine for dermographism and just stopped because I think it passed, but now all my other allergies are worse)

I've had several done! My last one was for metals. Found out I'm highly allergic to nickel. I no longer use metal utensils and it has almost completely taken away the "atopic dermatitis" around my mouth. And I found out why oatmeal gave me so much trouble.. it's high in nickel 🤷🏼‍♀️ who knew!

The benefits as re that you know of any potential irritants to avoid. Most allergists do what is called a scratch test which involves to my knowledge scratching the skin topically with a number of irritants like metals or pollens.
