Affording Psychosis Medication: How Do You Do It?

How do you afford your medication for psychosis? Right now I'm fortunate enough to have passable health insurance. My abilify maintena injection (for schizoaffective disorder to reduce psychotic episodes) is currently a $70 copay every month. But I've had horrible insurance before and had to ask for help from family to afford the full sticker price ($2700 a month) until I met my deductible. I'm job hunting again and terrified of winding up with lousy insurance again. What do you take for psychosis and how do you afford it?

Highly recommend looking into working for Starbucks - their health benefits are honestly unbeatable. My abilify and risperidone (pill form) are $6-$12 a bottle

That is pretty good. Are health benefits available to part time workers? I'm currently working full-time in content writing and would prefer/am looking for a similar job in the same field, but I would be open to taking on part-time work at Starbucks. I'll research this.

😥 Aripiprazole 5mg at night. Mirtazapine 30mg at night. Guanfacine ER at night. Benzatropine 1 mg at night. Propanolol 10mg 3times a day. Lithium Carbonate 450mg twice a day. I'm working on going off of benzatropine and hopefully other drugs soon. I've only experienced psychosis when I went off of my Venlafaxine. It was the only medicine I was taking at the time. Resulted in a hospital stay for in and out about two months. I hated the mental hospital. I'm on Medicaid, and all of it is covered. I hope this helps.

I have heard medicaid might be an option for me. I will look into it further. Thanks!

I thank god i have state insurance they pay for my meds the most I've had to pay was 5 dollars . I just seen today my cymbalta is almost $600 thankfully I don't pay anything, I would never be able to be on meds if I had to pay that much

is that medicaid as well or something else? That does sound good, I wonder what a program in my state would cover... thanks!

I’m sorry you struggle with that. Once I met my deductible (with all my health issues it was fast) I didn’t have to pay for anything.

I know that ability is expensive. I use injection as well. I have no side effects. What state are you in? Maybe Astra zenica or your county has ways to help as well. Like social services or something. 👍

At the moment I have Medicaid until October and then back down to Medicare. Which covers all but a $1.50 a bottle. I only have 8 bottles I buy for psych issues. So it’s not horrible. I am on a fixed income so it does suck that they don’t cover 100% like Medicaid
