Advice on Coping with Counting OCD

Hi I’m new to this app so anyone who has any advice on how they cope with counting OCD (counting letters like in subtitles, corners of a shape, etc). I honestly think it’s tiring me and so annoying to stop lol. I am on fluxovamine 300mg but don’t know if there’s anything else out there that may work better. I also have hypothyroidism which is most likely a direct hit to my anxiety disorder. Help please! 🤍

hello! person with ocd and hypothyroidism here! usually i try to use exposure therapy when it comes to my obsessions, but this sort of method doesn’t work for everyone, especially those with worse intrusive thoughts and stronger obsessions. for instance, i like volumes for tv’s, radios, etc., on multiples of 5. sometimes i will turn the volume to, say, 27, in my car and just keep driving and try to forget about it. it doesn’t always work but sometimes it does and it helps a lot!

I never realized that was OCD. I have to have it on an even number. Is this connected to hypothyroid/hashimotos?

Just have to say I relate! I also feel super spaced out and day dream. I never stay in the present moment. My counting compulsions are very minor, I’m more intense rumination, which is probably why I run to daydreaming. I also have hypothyroidism and am just now getting on levothyroxine. Hope our symptoms ease up soon!
