Need advice for battling strep throat with emetophobia

I just need advice or kind words. I’ve been an emetophobic for 15 years now (phobia of vomiting). It’s something I’ve struggled with as a kid and unfortunately it hasn’t really gotten better as I’ve gotten older. I’m currently battling strep throat. It’s horrible and I’m in so much pain. But I’m refusing to take my antibiotics because of the side effects. The last time I took antibiotics 3 years ago I was sick. I’m absolutely traumatized. I won’t even take ibuprofen to ease my pain because of my phobia. I’m such a coward and I feel awful because I know they will help, but my fear is overriding my logic. Has anyone gotten rid of strep throat without antibiotics? I just need someone to tell me it’s going to be alright. I have very few people in my life that even know I have this phobia

Hey, you MUST take those antibiotics. Without treatment, strep infection can affect your heart, joints and even your neurological system (read about rheumatic fever). As someone who deals with a few phobias myself i understand your recoil. You can ask your doctor for anti-emetic drugs to take with your antibiotics. Good luck and be well!!
