Need advice on non-controlled ADHD meds

Hey! My girlfriend is on adderal right now and she has the worst side effects, but she’s worried strattera won’t keep her awake. Has anyone tried both? Or a different med that’s not a controlled substance?

I was put on 50mg of adderall in first grade and kept adding dosage until I was in 7th grade when my doctor put me on stratera. The adderall also gave me bad side affects. It increased my violent episodes of my bipolar disorder, it gave me an eating disorder and I was 40 pounds going into 6th grade. I was even so reluctant to change my medicine when my doctor suggested it because it felt like my body became dependent on it. When I got off of the adderall ready to transition to stratera I had the worst substance withdrawals that I would spiral into random episodes of scratching my face until it bled. However a couple weeks after being on stratera my behavior began to improve and I didn’t have those outbursts. I’ve been on stratera since then and am still taking it and the only side effects I experience is an increase in my depressive state. However I am also on Prozac which helps to balance it out. In my case, adderall pretty much ruined my life and the way I thought. My brain is practically fried from it and even after now I still haven’t recovered. Stratera is so much better for me

Just curious. What kind of side effects. I've been on 60mg for 5 years or more. I have heard that it makes some people horny af.

I take strattera and I’ve never had any issues staying awake during the day, however I think it helps me sleep at night. That could just be because it calms my mind though

Strattera is okay. Definitely doesn’t work as well for me compared to adderal. But it does work

I have tried strattera among all the other non-stimulants, but i suffer with inattentiveness and major sensory issues so they never fully “worked” for me. But instead of being on regular adderall, they put me on Adderall XR so it releases slowly during the day instead of highs and energy crashes, that totally might be an option as well! Otherwise out of the non-stimulants strattera “worked” the best for me

My gf has been on both, she did not do well at all with strattera (she didn't sleep for literally months) and adderall has been much better for her. I guess it really just depends on the person

Try morafinil!

I agree with TreePerson. Modafinil has caused me no discomfort and helps me stay alert to have a productive day or half-day, since I take it sparingly.
