I believe I've been struggling with ADHD ever since I was really young. it's affecting me now as a young adult trying to get it together. What medication have you found to help you on a daily basis?

I take Adderall Xr but I've heard that Vyvanse works really well for people that don't do well on Adderall. I've also heard that extended release vs not will work better for different people. Not a medication, but meditation (although typically hard for adhd brains) can be an extremely beneficial daily aid as well.

Honestly the only medication that has helped me on a daily basis has been Adderall. But everyone reacts different to certain meds so that working for me may not work for you. Also not a med, but caffeine helped as well before i was diagnosed and put on meds

Same here. Adderall is the only medication that has actually helped me. I also take Lexapro, and apparently the two work together well.

It’s important to remember every ADHD person reacts differently to medication. If you have any family members with ADHD ask what medications worked for them bc it will often be similar. (For example adderall made my brother aggressive, so I’m not allowed to go on it, but as you’ve seen from other comments it’s amazing for some people). After you try a few medications, people who have had similar reactions may be able to point you in the right direction. (Since you show similar medication trends). In general, people are started on a stimulant. Usually, either Focalin (dexMethalphenidate) since it tends to have the least side effects or adderal (amphetamine and dexamphetamine) since it’s one of the most accessible. Stimulants will not work for some people with ADHD, or won’t be enough alone. Then non stimulants (strattera (24h) or Clondine/guanfacine) will be proscribed. If you have sleep issues, Clondine/guanfacine taken daily at night intandum with a stimulant is a good thing to try. If you have depression as well, Wellbutrin is a good medication to try. WebMD has one of my favorite reference points for looking at ADHD medications: https://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/adhd-medication-chart

I use Adderall. I used to use VyVanse but it made me sleepy after I took it. Everyone reacts differently so don’t be discouraged if the first one you try isn’t perfect.
