If you have adhd, do u ever feel like you have to try x10 harder to get the same achievements as others? ive been pretty sad because i feel like im always going to have a disadvantage compared to everyone , if you ever feel like that, how do you cope with it?

Absolutely! If we're in the wrong work field. But people with ADHD can make great managers because they see big picture, skipping past small details quickly. And great partners because we tend to be very empathetic and keep life interesting with spontaneity. Yeah, and it definitely sucks sometimes but everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses ya know? It's more important to focus on making changes and focusing on the good aspects of yourself to benefit yourself and your relationships instead of worrying about how you're doing compared to everyone else. It doesn't always make me feel better but I do feel more stable and emotionally healthy more of the time.

@AnimalBoy I agree. I definitely just try to work on myself. It's other people who say these things that gets me upset.

I'm graduating college and it's upsetting when others call my major easy or get mad because I say that I have As and Bs. It was hard for me and while I may not have been a science or nursing major, my degree was still hard and I deserve to graduate. I had to have extensions on nearly all my assignments and I also struggle with hypersomnia which always makes me tired. It's extremely hard to focus when you're consistently tired and have adhd. I never wanted to do my work but I would take my hyperfocusing very seriously and always use that to whip out papers I procrastinated weeks on.

@LadyJay You should be proud of yourself and who cares what others say it's your life your the one that's going to be living it , not those people . Who's to say they will succeed at what they accomplished . People like that that talk crap are usually the fake ones they are scared . So keep your head held high and continue on your path .

Sometimes, feeling like you have a disadvantage can lead to depression and other things. It has for me. But I try to keep my head in certain areas of my life that I know I can do well, like maintaining a clean room or focusing on a certain talent. For me, that's art. But for you it could be something else. Just focus on things you know you can do well and don't let the standards other people have control what your standards you have for yourself.

Yeah I feel like that all the time and it sucks but I just tell myself life unfair so either kys or get over it bc although letting your feelings out once in a while is good, it's a waste of time to be so upset over something you can't change

@Birdy04 I agree but once you get in that hole it's like how do I climb out. Yes I pray and I know he's by my side in all I go through . Yes it's a waste of time and it's weird how I see that and when you start to see that little bit of that light and see reality something within you blocks that light. It's really crazy and I wonder if I'm crazy or what but it's how I feel .

In truth you will always have a disadvantage. Are you on any adhd meds? I know before meds and after I knew I had adhd it just lit a fire under my arse to get stuff done- knowing I could do something the same as ā€œnormalā€ people and have all these things working against me. Made me feel even more accomplished than Iā€™m sure any of them ever felt ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

@Y0g1 thats a good point, i never thought of it in that way. I think I focus a lot on other people being proud of me instead of being proud of myself yk. but I take focalin, it helps somewhat i think

@Diz our society so badly wants us to care about what other people think. When you are neurodivergent you are never going to live up to what people want. The life you live is yours! So find ways to make yourself proud as opposed to others ā™„ļø you could talk to your doctor about upping the dose or trying a different adhd med but thatā€™s all up to you :)
