I was just diagnosed ADHD combined type a few days ago, been suspecting it for a few months, as I had a BPD diagnosis but working memory is affecting my DBT progress… also learned my dad was diagnosed ADD as a kid but he doesn’t believe in mental illness so he never said anything!! My symptoms have gotten in the way of my entire life so I’m excited to finally have some kind of hope in the way of medication that might actually help. (Have tried 10+ different brands…)

@Teammomjeans Yeah, there’s a lot of not-too-great doctors out there, sadly. I think the one I’m at now is gonna be a good one, lol

Oh man, that’s so frustrating! Sometimes that’s a piece of the puzzle I forget about. Finding a doctor that will work with you is so important. I really got lucky with mine. She showed me all my results and explained why she made certain decisions throughout the entire process. I wish there was more of her to go around tbh!

Have you asked your psychiatrist or physician about gene sight testing? It’s not 100% fool proof, but I was able to narrow down medications that work for me a lot quicker.

@Teammomjeans Yeah, i have a couple of genes that are mutated that make the majority of antidepressants essentially useless, I also had to fight to get my results because the doctor withheld them so he could be right. (He wasn’t, it showed i had a tolerance to zoloft and he had me on Zoloft, while i was complaining it did nothing.) It didn’t test for any ADHD medications, though. It did every other class, antidepressants, anxiolytics, mood stabilizers, antipsychotics…
