Addressing Restless Leg Syndrome: Seeking Advice

How are you addressing your RLS? I have been through the Dopamine antagonists, muscle relaxers and Gabapentin with limited success. Currently taking 1000mg of Advil before bedtime. This works but concerned about long-term effects.

Gabapentin has been the only medication that keeps RLS at bay. Prolonged use of nsaids are a fast road to kidney failure! Currently I’m seeing a neurologist for my RLS. Now that gabapentin is a controlled substance? Most doctors are afraid to prescribe a high dose? But it takes a dosage of at least 2700 mg a day to stop the symptoms. Also there are lots of foods and drinks that will agitate the RLS. Like caffeine, coffee, and chocolate. But allergy meds can also cause your RLS to kick into full gear like Benadryl! All antigens can cause a flare up. Once I had an episode so bad that I went to the ER. The nurse kept telling me to have a seat. But with RLS it’s impossible to keep still. So what ended up happening was, I paced until exhaustion and passed out and hit the concrete floor. Try and find a neurologist to treat you? Primary care physicians are just too scared to prescribe enough of a dosage to make an impact? All the best and good luck! Anir
