Getting an Endoscopy for My Acid Reflux: Tips?

Soo I have to get an endoscopy. I’ve had some acid reflux that causes me to lose appetite and feel so badly nauseous I sometimes can’t do much. I was on Nexium for a few months and now my GI doctor has been weaning me off of it, every other day, and everything became worse again. Now he’s getting an endoscopy! I think it might be helpful in some forms (like to see if I actually have a mucus plug from my globus sensation or not) and hopefully I get something out of it. I’m going to see if they have a non-sedation endoscopy since I am scared of sedation and maybe if they offer the pill cam or any alternative to sedation. I never thought I’d need a diagnostic thing like this but I do since my acid reflux will not go away. Any tips?

I also got a full sedation endoscopy to diagnose GERD, and to rule out stomach ulcers. I am now taking 40 mg Omeprazole and it helps a lot. I was also told that my sphincter to my stomach doesn't close properly due to the hEDS. As far as tips, the prep isn't bad, basically don't eat the night before - you'll get instructions. I later developed a weird abdominal attack with severe nausea that my Dr thinks is a jumpy colon, and I take Nortriptyline to stop those. It works really well!

I did both ends at the same time. I am terrified of sedation, but I asked lots of questions which helps me, and I barely even noticed what was happening before I was awake again and it was all over. But there's lots of other alternatives, like being partially sedated so you are still awake but groggy and don't want to move. Or the pill camera, but that can be expensive and you have to hold onto stool.. soo.. there's that con. But either way, you've got this!

If you choose to stay awake instinct might make you pull the tube out, it happened to my friend! I got full sedation. I went for GI issues and left being told I also have GERD and that I'd need a colonoscopy to diagnose my GI stuff.

Unfortunately with my EDS issues sedation might not even work well for me so I’m at a point where I might just have to get myself to not pull it out somehow. I feel like I could do it but I will see what my GI doctor says! Thanks for your input :)
