I had an abnormal ANA blood test come back. My doctor is sending me to a rheumatologist to find out what kind if auto-immune disorder I have. Does anyone know if Fibromyalgia can make this blood test positive? Or is it something else??

I agree with above. In fibromyalgia, the usual tests for autoimmune diseases are negative. But there are large variations of a positive ANA ((titer, pattern) so your rheumatologist will likely do more tests to come to a diagnosis. And often, +ANA are false and inconsequential.

It has been my experience that ANA fluctuates. I have had + and - results, which causes diagnosis to be challenging. However, there are many other tests that can be done to determine what you are dealing with. I have been told by my Rheumatologist that +ANA can indicate progressive disorders like RA or Lupus, but also can be a false + result. He also told me the low vitamin D, folic acid and B vitamins can be indicators for Fibromyalgia.

My understanding is fibromyalgia cannot give you a positive ANA test. However, I also understand there are a very high percentage of fail positives on ANA test. In my case they ran a lot of other blood labs and ruled it a false positive. I’m not a MD so I never give medical advice or diagnosis. This was just how I remember it going in my case.

Fibromyalgia is a type of autoimmune disorder. The Rheumatologist will be able to figure out what going on with your other symptoms as well. 🙏
