How does Abilify work for anxiety?

Hello, I just started taking ability and I was prescribed it for anxiety. When I got it and looked it up I learned it’s an antipsychotic. This doesn’t bother me but I am curious if anyone can explain how it works in general and how it helps with anxiety?

      Hello, Rowboat. I am also on Abilify, though for a few reasons. I can tell you that it is a good med for anxiety, and may be chosen due to its having almost no drug interactions. Oftentimes this med is prescribed when a Dr feels that there's a possibility of overmedication or drug interactions. There are also few side effects and allergic reactions.

        @faerywyrm okay, this makes sense because I do have other medications including heath and blood pressure medications and I’ve been having problems with my ADHD meds interacting too

      Most antipsychotics also will treat depression and anxiety. However, USUALLY their only prescribed if their other qualities are needed (e.g. the anti psychosis part) so I’m not sure why your psych chose that med. it SHOULD work tho
