Does anyone have a fear of driving? I have a phobia associated with it. I am 26 and have never had my license. I’ve always felt so down on myself about it. I never would put someone else down who has the same issues, but am always so hard on myself. I have been *trying* to make strides forward.

Anxiety (Including GAD)

Clonazepam

I used to have a fear of driving due to manipulation from my father who is controlling. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 26 also and it was hard to face that fear. I almost gave up but thankfully I got through it. You shouldn’t be too hard on yourself, just the fact that you’re trying is something you should be proud of.

I'm just like lillypad on this. I used to drive but I got into an accident with my mother 3 years ago and couldn't drive since. I wasn't driving 4 years prior to that because I was overseas as well. So everything just made it worse. My doctor gave me clonazepam for my anxiety and it helped alot. I got my license again and drive everywhere on my own. I have yet to go on the highway but I'm sure I'll be fine.

I’m 22 and never got my license! I’m absolutely terrified of driving and make every excuse not to. I always freak out and by the time I’m done I’m so shaky and exhausted from the anxiety I felt. It makes me cry! I want to be more independent but the idea of driving just seems too much for me to handle. Sucks relying on other people. Also wish I lived in a more accessible place. I feel like everyone thinks I’m a baby but it’s so severe. I hate telling people I don’t have a license bc I’m scared.

I drive on local roads but I have driving phobia for highways and main busy roads I am also unable to drive long distances I get jittery and panicky being stuck in the car . I keep trying to push myself to do local errands and drive more but due to my lifestyle now I’m mostly home not a lot to do outside out and about so it’s tough for me to practice if you will when I don’t have anything or anywhere I really need to be . This is something I really want to work on this year getting better

I used to throw up before I had to drive. And I would dry heave while in the car. Getting on daily meds for my anxiety has helped immensely. I only have issues surrounding winter driving now. Which is a problem since I live in Wisconsin. 😅

I was exactly the same at your age, I didn’t start driving until I was 31 and was down on myself about it. I wish it hadn’t been that way but honestly looking back I’m thankful I didn’t push myself to do something that could have been dangerous before I was ready. I wasn’t 100% ready at the time, but the desire to do it was greater than the feeling of fear. And if it helps, I was able to get used to it and feel comfortable after just a few months. Just know you aren’t alone! ❤️

I also have a phobia of driving. It really makes me feel bad about myself because I cannot even bring myself to drive to the grocery store. I try to remember that driving is not a definition of my self worth, I am so much more than driving. If I can’t do that, who cares? I everyone has their things they avoid. Try to have a “who cares” attitude and remind yourself of all the other wonderful things you offer the world
