I was told it's good to share your faith. I grew up in a Catholic Church and never really got to see real world problems until I was around 7/8 years old. I realized people were trying to hide their bad behavior and actions behind something bigger than them. I was taught that you needed to do good deeds to 'win over God' which is not true. Many bad thing have happened to me over the years. But I have overcome the things that have brought me down and I found a light through that darkness. About 3 years ago, I was reintroduced to a church. A Baptist church. And everyone was so kind to me before they even knew my name. Nothing felt like a competition, it felt like understanding. I felt like I was creating a real family full of support and love and kindness. They never gave up on me and they made sure to take their time explaining things so I could understand conversation. I came into a family and found people to look up to. I got attached and then we found out someone had cancer. He fought hard but he knew what was ultimately going to happen. He accepted that he was going to die and he happily talked about meeting God and getting to see his brother. Never once was he negative about it, even on the bad days. I will never ever forget that man. He was a father figure, a role model, a pastor, a friend, family. And I will forever be grateful for the love and wisdom he shared with me and those around me. Though I won't be able to tell that to his face again on earth, I am so happy that I can share this story with others and encourage them to do more research and find that connection to make you feel whole again. Safe. Happy.
