young adult military insurance is too expensive, my job has barely any info on their health insurance, I’m so lost and idk what to do. I’m only 22, no one teaches you any of this stuff. I didn’t sign up to have diabetes and the US makes it nearly impossible to live comfortably. what do y’all do for health insurance?

If you can either find through an employer or through your state marketplace, that would be my rec to start. It is so difficult and unfair for us to try and get the meds that we need to survive….going to Canada to get insulin is always an option! Lol

Just here to say I so relate; I remember how much of a slog it was to figure out health insurance for the first time as a young adult with T1D. I'd always have to ask for additional information on the plans in order to actually calculate costs, and once I started using the plans it was always a challenge to get everything working. And then the same thing all over again with each new job, and when the same job changes providers 😆. I'm 28 and dealing with insirance still isn't easy, but it has gotten easier for me over time. I also really relate to how unfair it is realizing that your cost of living as a diabetic in the US is just going to be higher than that of those without health issues. If your income is low enough, Medicaid was the easiest insurance to deal with that I've had thus far, and the prices were really reasonable too (like $3 for a month of insulin!). If not, you'd probably have to look into plans from the marketplace, if your military and job insurance options aren't tenable. Just for some hope, it's so different between employers, but I've already had two relatively cost-effective plans from two of my employers, even without working anywhere fancy/having a high profile job. Best of luck in getting this all figured out! 🙂
