I’ve been in undergrad for about 10 years trying to get this BS in psychology, but every time I miss one assignment my brain goes: ADHD: Yeah you’re behind now. Can’t do anything until you make it up. Let’s switch majors. GAD and OCD: CRAP! YOU MISSED ONE? MIGHT AS WELL DROP OUT! ASD: The well if you drop the semester, next one will be perfect because now we won’t miss any assignments EVER AGAIN! Mind you I only have 30 credits left to complete. I’m at my wits end 🥲

Is it possible to ask for reasonable accommodations, like more time to complete assignments?

@SalineTurnip I have. They limited extensions to home assignments and not the weekly forums. And once my brain new I had extensions, it made things worse for me because I couldn’t focus without having a concrete deadline by my instructor. I didn’t even respect my own.

@DenimJeans that’s why I believe I was so successful in high school, no problems besides just typical “procrastination”, in college there are no daily concrete deadlines or check ins. My one class only has two papers due for the semester, one was due in October the other next week (this is an 8 page research paper) but my professor said for the first one “as long as it’s on by the end of the semester you’re fine, but you should hit the due date listed” so naturally I’m writing both of them this week.

@SalineTurnip my accommodations office just said lol that’s something you’re going to have to figure out on your own. I told them I had difficulties with executive function and completing assignments so maybe that’s why

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that goes through this every semester since I got into college.

@dandboy151 it is so aggravating. I’ve gotten accommodations, tried online classes, accountability partners…nothing works. I wanna just drop out sometimes, but I’ve invested so much money into school I feel like I have to finish.

@DenimJeans every time I try something that I’m like “this will help me get on track” it lasts for like two days and then I just forget or give up. My all or nothing thinking really hurts me. Didn’t buy the textbook for one of my classes cause I got to the midterm without it and was just like, welp no sense in buying it now, just gonna bs my way the rest of the way. It’s the time and money. It’s so infuriating because like I want to do the work and I want to be in a degree that I enjoy but the best analogy I have is like your feet are glued to the floor, you want to walk and take a step but it literally feels impossible to do so no matter how much you try
