Anyone else play video games to cope? I'm looking for some gaming buddies who get how disabilities impact gameplay. I have a PC, but not much else 🤣

Yes, I only have a laptop, so I only play Roblox and Sims 4. I mostly play things on my phone because it hurts to sit up in bed for a long time to get on the laptop. Mobile games bore me so easily though.

I’m a Pc player! When it gets bad I just stop in the middle of whatever I’m doing and go lay down haha

it’s funny cuz its 4am and i just played like 2 hours of minecraft and i opened this app to read this lol. but yes i absolutely game like crazy to cope. idk why but i have a big thing for horror games, i love to be alone in my room lights off and just focus on the horror ambience. it’s honestly a temporary distraction from everything though. i tend to hyperfixate on things to distract myself sometimes

I play a lot of minecraft, but right now I'm stuck on Assasins Creed: Valhalla

I love VR, my cousin has one. It can give you a headache or eye strain if you play it for too long though and it is probably not good for people with vision sensitivity

I also heard many positive feedbacks about VR games recently. One friend of mine was going recently through a hard time with general depression, ADHD etc. and nothing worked for him, even a counseling twice a week. Until he got a VR headset, Oculus I guess, and started play games and socialize online a little bit. Not on purpose but just for fun as an addition to gaming experience. And that all together helped him like a charm. He still believes and tell everyone that VR headset worths a life for him, literally.

I found games being the best way to stress out on purpose so that makes you calm down for everything else. So when I’m about to start stress out by one reason or another I just launch some mobile games I like and let myself some time to play. While I’m playing I feel like I’m alone by myself and nothing else matters for me that moment. My hidden trick is that I push myself to lose so that made me mad at first but that also released all the tension inside, and then I feel myself energized again.

I do. sometimes I just have to escape for a bit, and then whenever I'm done life just seems a tad more tolerable somehow. Sometimes I just need a break from life lol. I really like big, open world games where you can explore a lot. Sometimes I play first person shooters as well and they're engaging and distract me a bit from other things temporarily. Unfortunately sometimes I can't though, due to my chronic hand pain

      There are subtitles on Minecraft?

      • SJP

        744d

        @NewYork with Optifine, yes!

I get into these phases where I play my switch like crazy, then not at all. I haven’t played it in months because I’m just too tired to enjoy it. My friends keep wanting to play online, but I haven’t recently. I want to get back into sims though. I seem to not be able to focus on games well anymore

I'm only able to play my Xbox at the moment, but there are still plenty of crossover games if you're willing!

      • SJP

        744d

@Tristiana Definitely willing! What kinds of crossover games?

    • jorda

      744d

I play lots of DBD & it's my main game for escapism. If any of you all play it too, you should add me!

      • SJP

        744d

        @jorda DBD?

Grew up on PC games but have become more of a switch player since it's been getting harder and harder to play

    • slothtastic36

      744d

yes i love PC gaming and also just bought a switch a week or two ago! what kinds of games do you like?

      • SJP

        744d

@slothtastic36 I love open world, or those with quests. Usually a combination if I can 😅. I have been playing Minecraft since beta, so that's always on the table lol.

        • slothtastic36

          740d

@SJP ooh that’s awesome! i like similar games, lately i’ve been playing Breath of the Wild and really enjoying it

    • Chesbro99

      745d

Yes I like to play FPS, board games, and switch games

    • NewYork

Yes, but the only one I’ve really been able to focus on is fortnite

    • hotcheetounicorn

    • wise

I play an insane amount of minecraft or the sims 4 depending on which one has my attention. also play animal crossing in bursts lmao. I will say every game I play is played without sound, and if it's an option I'll have subtitles on instead. I'm autistic and have a sensory processing disorder, and sound is my worst trigger. I usually play single player games because most people get frustrated with how I play :/

      • SJP

        745d

@wise I have an auditory processing disorder, so I sometimes can't hear noises or they are too overwhelming. I love Minecraft optifine for the subtitles and turning off FOV effects. 😊

        • Blinky

          744d

@SJP OH MY GOD I THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY FOR ALWAYS MESSING WITH THE FOV LOL.. and same with the audio, I have to have it too low otherwise it's overwhelming but I also have to have subtitles because I can't hear a creeper behind me even at like 100% volume (´ . .̫ . `)

    • Blinky

      745d

Lol. I try to play them as much as I can, but they make my hands hurt so much! Not to mention the brain fog that comes with my condition, it makes me total ass at PvP. Always the gatherer and never the hunter ╮(^▽^)╭

      • hazyeclipse

        744d

@Blinky omg me too, so few people seem to have hand pain so when people tell me about what they do to cope or their hobbies in their spare time I can never take the suggestions because I can barely use my hands :( I do play games though when I'm lucky enough to have a couple weeks of milder pain

      • SJP

        745d

@Blinky lmao saaaame, or the healer 🤣

    • Mija

I'm deaf and sleepy. I'd sign out or pause to nap. No headset ever.

    • Noodlemum

      745d

I do! I play a lot of 1 player games cause my laptop is currently being held together with duct tape. 😅 but I'll hop on stardew valley occasionally. Used to be super good at valorant until my laptop couldn't handle it

    • Sickcinattus

      745d

Games are a good escape and tool, but I always make sure not to get absorbed by it, have it take precedent over other chores, etc. And yeah, PC gang is best
