ok so im technically not diagnosed with anxiety or social anxiety but for almost my whole life i feel like I've had it. I've spoken to multiple therapists and I've told them how I feel and never have they once said i might have anxiety. I have frequent panic attacks and symptoms of anxiety disorder but im scared that my doctor wont believe me or I'll be put on meds with negative side affects.
I’ve had anxiety my whole life. My childhood doctor didn’t want to diagnose me because I was too young. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 15. Long after I had started having almost daily panic attacks. Therapy has helped me the most. I’ve been trying different meds for awhile. My best advice is to talk to your doctor. If you feel like a med is having bad side effects, tell them immediately. Good luck ❤️❤️
about 20% of people have an anxiety disorder!! if you’re having constant panic attacks, (like more than 2-4 for your whole lifespan), then i’m pretty sure you 100% have some form of an anxiety disorder. be stern with your doctor, ask your therapist questions, and if they don’t help you— drop em!! so many counselors and doctors are useless, unhelpful, and don’t deserve their titles. get help no matter what the cost, it’ll be worth it in the end to FINALLY have the relief. trust me, i know. it took me 10 years.
also, with the meds— you don’t have to take them if you aren’t comfortable! there are many light anxiety meds, hydroxyzine being the safest imo. it’s basically like benadryl (an antihistamine) for anxiety, no side effects really. another light one that’s a little more intense is buspirone. medication has its risks, but you have to ask yourself: are the side effects worth the relief; the ability to be calm and well? there are certain meds i will never take, like depakote or lithium, but i’ve been taking zoloft and it doesn’t have side effects nearly as bad as those two.
if you need any advice feel free to hmu!
