I’m autistic and have some trauma surrounding dogs. My husband and I got married and moved in together 5 months ago. He has a German shepherd, Freyja who has been sort of his emotional support through a lot of hard stuff the past few years. However, Freyja is the worst dog I have ever come across. And I love dogs. She is not trained, very stubborn, never listens to even my husband. And she has horrible separation anxiety around me. She’s bitten 3 people on my watch, made all of them bleed. And she bit me once while dating my husband. She’s aggressive and unpredictable. But I can’t even so much as mention rehoming her without making my husband cry and start a huge argument. He’s mad at me for days every time I try to talk about it. My stress levels are way too high and Freyja is the main cause of my stress and the only source of arguments between my husband and I. What do I do?? I swear I can not live with this dog anymore. I cry and have panic attacks every single day bc of her.

I recommend watching some episodes of Its Me or the Dog with your husband. There are some up on youtube for free. It's a show about a dog trainer who will go to people's houses, assess the situation with the family, living conditions, and dogs behavior, and make a training plan for them. It should help boost you guys' confidence in being able to train your dog. Hire a dog trainer if you're unable to train her on your own. But any dog can be trained with enough patience, knowledge, and love. Wishing the best for you!

Perhaps call the veterinarian she sees and set up a doctor's appt for her to discuss with the vet about this behavior with her? There are medications out there and methods of training to help with behavior issues and dogs. Those usually need to be done hand in hand, training and meds, not one or the other. Perhaps she deals with anxieties that she struggles with and may need some help with figuring that all out? It sounds like if the pup gets some help it will take a lot of stress off of you and your family

Oh also she follows me around CONSTANTLY. She always has to be able to see me or she’ll flip out. And I can’t so much as change how I’m sitting without her jumping up and running over to me to stare in my face. She’s super sensitive to my every move. Everything she does triggers the hell out of me.
