by Alike Medical Team ∙ Updated on June 13, 2023
This group contains additional names: - Rigid Pelvic Floor - Congenital Abnormalities of Uterus in Pregnancy - Abnormal Shape or Position of Uterus - Abnormality of Vulva in Pregnancy - Abnormality of Vagina in Pregnancy - Uterine Tumor in Pregnancy - Previous C-Section - Cervical Incompetence in Pregnancy - Abnormality of Cervix
Uterine abnormalities can be congenital, meaning you were born with it, or acquired, due to a complicated delivery or cesarean sections. On rare occasions, cesarean section may lead to the formation of a strong scar in your uterus that will make it harder for you to conceive in the future. All uterine malformation can lead to symptoms such as abnormal or absent menstrual bleeding, recurrent pregnancy loss and preterm delivery. In case you had a previous preterm labor or if you experience difficulties getting pregnant, your doctor might offer to do a *vaginal ultrasound* to check for any unknown uterine abnormalities.
368 people with Uterine Abnormalities are on Alike.
Women with different uterine anomalies may present with different symptoms but these include primary amenorrhea, miscarriages, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, malpresentation, cesarean delivery, and preeclampsia.
After a thorough medical history and physical examination, imaging studies, such as a hysterosalpingogram and ultrasound, or an MRI, are done to visualize the uterus and verify a uterine anomaly.
Most cases do not require any medical intervention. The doctor may recommend surgery treatment if a septate uterus is diagnosed during an assessment for infertility or a pregnancy loss. Other anomalies rarely require surgical treatment.
