i have a dog and a cat. there are times, and i swear it's not frequent, that i get so low i can't bring myself to get out of bed to feed them dinner. they've had a meal that day, but not both. it makes me feel really guilty as it's extremely unfair to them... are there any types on how to motivate myself when i'm in that state? just to clarify, this happens like... once or twice a month at most.

Automatic feeder that dispenses the appropriate portion was my first thought! You could also try and Pavlov yourself in a way and play music before feeding your pets and on your bad days turn on some music and see if your motivation improves. Set several alarms with task reminders for every day so you have the annoyance of turning off the noise and reminding yourself to go do it. You could even keep the bowl and the food right next to your bed so you don't have to get up to feed them.

I have the same problem sometimes. Like Aliek said, I keep food and bowls near my bed so that I can reach over and grab it. Even that is too much sometimes, tbh. I’ve found it’s easier if I make a few plastic bags of their individual portions when I’m able to. Then I can just pour a bag into the bowls instead of dealing with the whole big bag of food. Sounds like it’s only a tiny difference, but it’s helped more than just having the whole bag there.
