For me and hating myself, I just started to fake it. If you say positive things enough, you'll start to think them automatically, it just takes time. The fact that you're worried about hurting people makes you a good person, because a bad person wouldn't care. The ones you love are around you because they know you're a good person, even if you don't think so. Try to think about why you're hurting them; are you angry, or scared? Try to communicate with them what's bothering you, and try to tell them easy ways they could help. It's sucks to know someone you love is hurting and not be able to help

I know book recs arenā€™t for everyone, but there is a really short one that is aimed at answering your exact question: Love yourself like your life depends on it. I liked it.

I think dogdad mentioned some great first steps for stopping to hate yourself, and I just have a couple thoughts on extra things. One thing that works for me is keeping an encouragement folder. Essentially itā€™s every complement Iā€™ve ever received, every award Iā€™ve won, every card, everything. This proves that Iā€™m not *that* bad, and others think highly of me. Something else that sometimes helps is a gratitude journal. I started doing 3 gratitudes/day; 1 of them has to be about me specifically. I let myself do 1 week on/1 week off, because it gets hard, but Iā€™m normally more positive overall when I get in that habit

You might need to get to the bottom of things. Sounds like there's a lot going on. Definitely see specialists. Hope it works out for you!
