My therapist told me that just about every ND AFAB has told her that their special interests as kids were MLP, warrior cats, online games (animal jam, club penguin, moshi monsters). Does anyone else relate to this?
its an nd dfab introvert thing ive noticed, probably a result of isolation and targeted marketing with gen z and millennials to a degree. my big thing was neopets and disney's toontown online... id probably be considered an early adopter of this kind of divergency at this point... hahaha
"warrior cats" *sweats*
that's how i got into moderating online spaces... learned a bit about designing community spaces... also how i learned a lot about the local plants and got into foraging, an interest that's persisted well over the last decade
mine now is anime, and really it has been for years looking back, but until pretty recently it's been hard to acknowledge that, both because of how much that gets shamed by peers (yay for "cringe" culture) and by family (so i had to watch in secret). it might have beat warriors if it had felt like a "safe" interest to have? even admitting it here is nervewracking because i can't help but expect that someone's going to jump on me for it. i still feel a lot of shame about it, but i just can't help my interest in it, and my knowledge about varied topics in that sphere goes deep enough it surprises me sometimes.
i think the two (warriors and my current interest in anime) are pretty deeply related, though. i tend to like "isekai" and other fantasy genre stuff that has a deep enough lore that i can get absorbed in it, and has some actual drama and plot, but doesn't take itself so seriously that it feels impossible to break into... and like, think about it, protagonist suddenly leaves the human world and finds a new world with its own rules, uses experiences from the other world to become very successful in the new world, all new cast of characters from the new world to befriend... warrior cats is an isekai
I wasn't ever into anything you listed but I was into littlest pet shop and pokemon. I figure it makes sense, collecting and sorting things is like catnip to ND brains and most of that stuff is just collecting/rooting for/playing as different colorful and/or customizable little creatures. I'm still doing that too its just now it's rats who live in my bedroom lol
LOL I missed the original MLP craze and was too old for Warrior Cats and those online games when they were popular, so not me. It definitely could have been if I were a little older or younger!
