Does anyone else’s parents not like to admit that you’re disabled? Like my mom is very reluctant to even say that I’m disabled but she’s coming around but my dad. He hates it and constantly says just ignore it make yourself better.

@Beetlejuul Prayers! At least reach out to a doctor to prevent furthering pain :)

I’m scared to tell my mom I’ve been dealing with hip and knee pain for years cuz I think she’ll dismiss it.

Yes. I don't know what goes through their heads tbh. I struggle to sit, stand and walk, I'm debilitated by pain, my muscles won't function right which sometimes prevent me from walking at all - pretty sure that's by definition being disabled. and my dad puts me being sick in air quotes. Like if something comes up and my medical condition is involved or related he'll say something like "since you're 'sick' ". Sometimes they seem to recognize somewhat that I'm limited in what I can do, usually after I explain it again, but then they.. forget, and start going back to talking like I can do normal things and like I'm healthly. It's frustrating as hell.

my mother flip flops back and forth in admitting my health is awful to saying nothing is wrong with me. What ever her reason is for it doesn’t really make up for making me wonder if it’s all in my head

@mrchaos the flip flopping makes it harder sometimes than one person sticking to one side. But yeah they need to see it from our perspective

My parents seem to be in denial about my medical issues as well. I feel like if they admit that it’s all real they will feel like they are failures or something so they are in this denial

Mine are like that. Like they won’t say I’m disabled or sick and they constantly say it will get better even though thats not how it works

@Student_girl same here. I have a lot of symptoms that aren't explained by my current diagnosis as well, but it hasn't been figured out yet. My dad thinks that means it'll pass. That if they can't find anything, it'll go away eventually. It doesn't work like that lmao
