Question: when your significant other leaves for a large period of time (say a month) how do you handle it. I’m literally in shambles. He’ll be back in 2 or so more weeks but I’m a nervous wreck with intrusive thoughts. This is the first time we’ve been separated for this long. I’m so use to seeing him on my days off that all I do now when I’m off is stress clean and count down the days till he gets back. I feel crazy because of the intrusive thoughts like “what if he doesn’t like me as much as he did before he left?”. It’s sucks. I’m seeing my therapist again soon but I feel kinda pathetic for not being able to hold myself together for a month without him :/

I was a little bit of a wreck when I was away from my SO during the summer between university semesters. (We’ve been together for four years and I had three summers with him across the country for internships) I mostly just tried to call him regularly and also spend extra time with my other friends. It’s hard, but it’s nothing you can’t get through! Remind yourself that he loves you every time you get those intrusive thoughts. Do something that makes you happy. Picking up a new hobby or revisiting an old one could help. Use your free time for something productive :)
