I want change my name to ashton but I'm nervous about how my family's and friends are going react. One of my friends knows that I have been thinking of changing my name and she said she will still called me by the name that she is use to calling me.My other friend is fine with it my mom don't care. I'm more worried about how my dad's family will react. They have certain views on stuff and will only see that point of view . I feel like they're going to say you can't change it because you were baptized with this name and stuff because they are very religious. I just hope they understand why I'm doing this.

@Sidhelah it's impolite to ask people this as most people aren't comfortable with their deadnames

I got baptized twice, once as a baby, and once when I was old enough to actually know what it meant. If you can do it sincerely, you could always get baptized again, this time under your new name 🤷♀️ it might help the family cope(:

changing from a dead name to a real name is sometimes a challenge. If you are a legal adult, there's really nothing anyone can do to stop you. If not, you'll have to jump through more hoops. religious folk come in a couple different varieties. There are the ones who will love you no matter what, and there are others who will love you only if you do what they say and act as they do. You are the the best authority on your family, so do what you feel is best, but then think, if I am not living a genuine and sincere life, if I'm not living an authentic life, then whose life am I living? Just because their family by blood does not mean you owe them anything. You are your own creation, like everyone else. And you owe it to yourself to be as authentic as you possibly can be, safely. TL/DR, don't burn any bridges, but do the things you need to do to maintain your mental health

And what would you be changing it from?
Are you in transition or just want to change your name? Either way it's your life and identity and those who don't live in your skin will just have to deal.
Have you tried using it as a nickname with everyone to see how they react to it and get them used to it? Alike says we are alike, and that's pretty funny because Ashton is part of pseudonym. If you need to talk to anyone about things, I'm here.
@darkstarrynight No I may try it with my cousins I'm close with.I think it's easy to start small.Thanks I am here of you too❤️❤️

@Ash66 you're welcome
@darkstarrynight Part of my pseudonym *
There's no rush to tell everyone straight away. I think telling the people who ur sure will support u first is a great option, then no matter how anyone else reacts you have some people to fall back on. Also maybe try explaining to that one friend why you want to change ur name and maybe she will be more understanding. I wish you much luck Ashton 💜
