Any idea for coping with extremely (15+ days) long periods?

Have you tried hormonal vitamins? It has helped me dramatically. My periods are now light, no moodiness, no tender breast, very little bloating. It’s been amazing for me. I was shocked.

yea you go to the emergency room and get a blood transfusion and fluids, maybe even pain relief if you're lucky. 15+ day long periods are HIGHLY abnormal, have you spoken to your gynecologist about this?

@wise I definitely need to but it's extremely hard for me to get to one. & I've been trying for months. & I'm fully aware it's not normal. & Most days I'm not losing that much blood It is usually around 10 milliliters (doesn't even half fill a 25 milliliters menstrual cup), if that much except for the two heavy days where it's a lot more(fills a 25 ml menstrual cup 4-7 times). & There's little no pain. A vast majority of the time.

@Ralffy a constant trickle of blood is just as bad as acute blood loss from an injury or a heavy 2 day bleed from your period. you still run the risk of anemia, cardiac arrhythmias, even shock. I'm serious, next time you have a period that lasts longer than 10 days, you need to be in an emergency room on day 11

Estrogen should stop it. Rise in estrogen is what stops periods on a natural cycle. Spironolactone may help by lowering your testosterone. Otherwise take combined birth control? Honestly I wish they had a real cycle replicating bc that was high estrogen for two weeks and high progestin for two weeks

@mooncoconut I had no idea estrogen stopped the period. Thank you for the information it's actually really helpful. It definitely could be high testosterone because I've noticed some unwanted black hair is starting to try to come up on my neck, which could be related. I'm not really compatible with most hormonal birth control but maybe. I agree there should be a better better cycle replicants than that. Though it doesn't surprise me there isn't.

I have those issues. I can't have hormonal birth control, Tylenol, or NSAIDs. My cycles are 54 days, with average 10-12 day periods. I use warm/hot showers and just laying in there, laying on the cold floor, massage, yoga (there are some amazing menstrual poses, even for people with chronic pain), laying on a bunch of pillows, drinking more water, taking iron and folate. I also try to eat healthier, as it helps me feel better.

@SJP Thank you. I've been doing iron I hadn't done folate, but I can try it. & I can take hormonal birth control either,it definitely has been a hindrance. & Yoga really is a life saver even before all of this. & Gosh I miss when my cycle is that length. For the past year it's been on average 28 days, with a 14-day period. & That's not even bad. I've had a few 20 day periods.

@Ralffy I get 20 day periods usually once to four times a year. I get bleeding randomly in the middle of my periods. I have large ovarian cysts, but not large enough to operate. I literally have soaked super tampons in an hour, gone to the ER (bc that's what you're supposed to do), only for them to say that my high RBC is fine even with a marked drop. It's crazy! I hate periods 🤣

I use to struggle with them. Once I got my thyroid issues under control / a birth control method that worked for me, I’m down to 5 days. I’d talk to your doctor about trying to control it!

@kab I hadn't thought it could be my thyroid. I don't know why, cus it has made some problems with my period in the past. Thank you.

Not to be a hippie, but raspberry leaf tea can help. Not the iced tea raspberry flavor but actual raspberry leaf tea. Also, if you aren't on birth control, that may help

@livvie361 Hippie or not it's not harmful to try. Thank you! & when I can finally get to a doctor I'm definitely going to see what I can get done. I appreciate it.

Lots of advil, a heating pad, and good tea. Beyond that your guess is as good as mine

@NukaCola oh that's nice but how can period be 15+ days long

        • Ralffy

          689d

@aceofarows The blood keeps flowing & flowing & flowing. Then it's been 8 days, then 12, then 15, then 19, then a whole 23. It sucks.
