Lamotrigine seems to be the only medication that has helped and I never forget to take it. I’ve had that problem in the past with other meds but this one seems to be working just fine for me

Spironolactone. I had subclinical acne & nothing would make it better/go away until I started this medication

Klonopin. Everyone in my family knows how amazing it is for me, the effect is unbelievable sometimes. I take it very sparingly to make sure I don't build up tolerance. When I do take it its like I don't have agoraphobia or GAD anymore, I get to feel how everyone else does. It can make me go from shaking violently, weeping, freezing, and terrified for my life to just, normal. Just knowing I have it with me in case I need it soothes me now. I wish I'd had it a long time ago.

4 Zyrtec and 4 Pepsid per day. Was having anaphylactic reactions multiple times a week, chronic inflammation and swelling, and skin reactions like hives and break outs to literally everything. Food, trees, clothing laundry detergent. My doctor told me the max I can take is 4 of each a day. Have been on it for 7 months now and haven’t had another anaphylactic reaction since. I’ve forgotten to take them a few times and those were the days my inflammation and skin hives came back.

Lithium saved my life. Its super controversial but I was hospitalized for bipolar, suicidal tendancies, mania, and being a danger to others at just 10 years old and my psychiatrist made the looked down upon decision to put a 10 year old on lithium and I'm grateful for that decision every day. Idk where I'd be without it. I've gone down on the dosage over many years but I know it still works for me better than anything else I've taken. I also still see the same psychiatrist today which is a blessing. He knows me better than anybody.

    • Fluffy_Mingo

      546d

Nope. I'm on so many, narcotic, muscle, nerve, etc. Now the gabapentin did seem to help my wrists a bit. Wanted to go back to doing normal things. With them at least, but wasn't amazing enough for that. Had to get it upped a lot for my back, and a lovely side helped my wrists, and I'm crocheting again. They don't hurt so much but get tired so quickly. My back hasn't been able to be fully helped. My legs... Still go in and out on being able to walk or not. Super weak. Hope you get answers!

@Distressedcat3000 I was on it for five years and it caused such extreme dulling of my pain receptor’s ability to be affected by pain medications that even fentanyl didn’t touch it 😅 I’m glad it’s working for you

Thought cannabis was the cure for my ADHD but I ended up severely addicted and unable to function. Recently tried Kratom, a stimulant, and described the feeling to my hub and he said it sounds like how Adderall works. Never been on stimulants before because doctors don't listen

      • seroquelshawty

Ketamine infusions sent my severe depression and OCD into full remission for two months. Other than that cannabis helps with many things such as appetite. SSRIs have done absolutely nothing for me.

    • Xavier_c

      570d

Wellbutrin!! I’ve been on and off it since i was 12 and honestly it’s worked wonders. It’s very risky if you drink or don’t take it consistently but it’s worked so well for me that they put me back on it after taking it inconsistently resulted in a suicide attempt.

Yes! I have struggled for years with blood sugar too high. No one ever mentioned Jardiance. It was like a miracle drug. Suddenly my blood sugars were beautiful. I was a controlled diabetic. I still monitor my blood several times a day, but the sugars aren't the problem now. The Jardiance had to go because it's damaging to your kidneys. I knew very little and then ended up in renal failure. My stay in the hospital helped me completely recognize how precarious life is. Monitor your meds and know what you're taking. I really means your life.

With how some people have reacted in the past when I’ve talked about the huge difference in reactions I’ve had between CBD and THC, apparently I’m weird that weed pretty much had been a wonder drug for a lot of my mental issues plus any physical pain … because I’ve tried different dosages and methods of absorption and CBD by itself has never done anything so I seem to be purely THC reactive

    • CookieMomster

      594d

Cannabis was so calming for so long. I live in a state where it isnt welcomed so was paying too much and my source was imprisoned. It waa so much better than Zoloft and/or any other TD causing drug they tried me on. Now I am back to drinking because of availability, cost and desperation.

      • CookieMomster

Testosterone. It has been so incredible at helping me to feel better in my own skin and has been effectively an antidepressant

    • Layley

      597d

All benzos feel like magic to me bc they make it to where I’m able to be productive. But I understand the long term issues so I don’t use them daily. The only other meds I’ve noticed anything from is ketamine lozenges my dr prescribed and I now get from mindbloom, and the nootropic lithium orotate. Oh and subutex.

      • KratomEater

        587d

@Layley try Kratom powder start with low dosage like 1/4 tbs spoon. Goldenmonk.com helps me so much.

      605d

I used to take Methylphenidate when I was 9 up until the age of 15. I really liked this med. But at 15 I took a overdose one day. Then they would not give it back. (Because it's also a form of a controlled substance)

    • CaptainHolmes

      608d

    • BrandonSay

      612d

The good great green stuff is always great, actually helps combat the nights my epilepsy meds give me that hardcore insomnia and any loss of appetite so I don't otherwise look like I'm giving into my meds from depression which ARE literal depressants they are benzos after all

i take 50mg zoloft, 0.1mg clonidine and 50mg trazodone! contrary to most prescribed with zoloft, it really helps me so so so much <3 i know a lot of people dont like the mental numbness feeling they get while on the medication but i would rather not feel much than feel what i feel unmedicated. as for the clonidine and trazodone, they help tremendously with my insomnia.

I still can't eat, like, a whole tomato without my breathing stopping, but if my food has touched a little bit of tomato juice, I feel 100% fine with chromalin. Without it, id be in debilitating stomach, head, and joint pain, and very swelled up. Unfortunately my doctor won't prescribe it :( she's never heard of it and doesn't want to look into it. I'd like to also say that I was just recovering from my eating disorders and I wasn't eating much at the time so that could've been it but 10/10 would take again if I was healthy enough for it

Morphine. I had a prescription given to me, I do not take it "just cause" I have it set aside for the really bad days but when I take one for pain I find myself in a happier mind set as well. Not only is all the pain my body feels on a daily basis gone so is my anxiety and my demons. I feel alive and like myself... But I only have a limited amount of them and I do not want to become addicted to them so I only use them as a last effort kind of thing. I've tried cannabis as well, it helps with the demons in my head but it doesn't do much for my physical pain oddly enough.

    • Fid

      654d

Antidepressants should not be looked at as a wonder drug for it does not give you an euphoric feeling ( like perhaps cocaine). Rather, it should make you feel like yourself again. Feeling yourself again after a bout of depression is cause for a temporary euphoric feeling. For the above reason, antidepressants are not necessary addictive like drugs that give you a euphoric experience. If you have a positive affict from an antidepressant, this would be tangible evidence that you suffer from physical depression as opposed to psychological depression. Pristiq and Remeron( often referred to as California Rocket Fuel) works best for me. Check it out!

Tapering could take years off on a high dose. I’m deciding to get off after 20 years of Xanax and Clonazepam. Clonazepam is the worst to get off of. I’ve had depersonalization, feelings that your ears are constantly underwater. Benzos change who you are. They change your personality and cognitive functioning and memory.

    • Fairydust

      655d

Be careful with benzos. I’ve been on them too long. You technically aren’t suppose to be on them long term. You will get major withdrawals and even protracted withdrawals for months to even years.

I know it's not really what's being asked, but I was diagnosed with pretty severe hypothyroidism in November 2021. Where your TSH level is supposed to be varies between doctor to doctor, but it's supposed to be around 0.4-5, according to my doctor. My level was 62. As my doctor was explaining what the symptoms were, I checked off basically every single one. Tiredness, sluggishness, unexplained weight gain, joint and muscle stiffness pain and cramps, muscle weakness in the hips and shoulders, body aches, irregular period, intolerance for cold, constipation, dry skin, dry cracked heels, hoarseness, elevated cholesterol, thinning hair depression, impaired memory, depression, irritability, acne, even vitiligo. I was on heroin and meth for 10 years, so I attributed a lot of my symptoms to the wear and tear I put on my body and getting older. I had 0 energy. Going grocery shopping or even something like washing the dishes took ALL of my energy and I would seriously struggle through every day. But when I was diagnosed and started taking levothyroxine, it was INCREDIBLE the difference I felt. Thinking about how I felt prior compared to how I feel now, it's like I wonder drug for me.

Meloxicam. Helped with so much of the additional pain, & the only NSAID that has ever worked for me. And it's some hardcore opiate or other scheduled drug. Then gastro doc said no more NSAIDs - they're causing ulcers on my throat & stomach lining.😥 Now its back to severe pain days more often.

@Evantha definitely does for me. I used it for my anxiety, depressive lows, and my multiple chronic pain disorders. You have to find the method (concentrates, flower, distillate, RSO, edibles, etc) that works for you, depending on what you need it to help with.

      • DannyPhantom

        663d

@Evantha it depends what you're looking for and how your body reacts to it. Everyone body chemistry is different so cannabis is fantastic for me, decreases my pain, fatigue and nausea. But my best friend tried it for her depression and chronic pain, it just made her nauseous, uncomfortable and tired. Everyone's different, doing you're interested, I recommend doing research on strains specific to your needs and giving it a careful try 💕

I’ve been on pretty much every SNRI, SSRI, multiple benzos, antipsychotics, pain meds, sleep meds - nothing works. Nothing. My doctor has straight up told me “your sleep issues are beyond my knowledge - which is medicines that exist - no medication is going to make this better” (I had been on ambien daily before this conversation and slept 5 hours that week) and I’ve cycled on antidepressants and prns for anxiety and depression and a bag of other things and nothing helps so we keep trying old ones again but low dose does nothing and tweaking it slightly makes it completely out of control. I’d do anything for a “wonder drug” but I have 0 hope for it

I really truly hate to see y'all who want to or are currently taking opiates. I took opiates for 6 years. In the end it stopped working bc my body got used to it and needed more to help my pain. I finally went to a Suboxone clinic to stop the rollercoaster. Suboxone does nothing for my pain. Suboxone does however make me sweat ferociously, cold clammy sweat. Face, hair, neck, chest, arms, everything. I mean sweaty like you're playing in the NFL. Not ladylike at all and it is affecting my life. I want to kick Suboxone to the curb. I take Humira and after 6 months it's cut down my pain a lot. I can't take gabapentin or amytriptylin. Even when I was young and pain free, exercising never produced this kind of sweatiness. My advice is don't start the opiate hell train!! I have also tried every antidepressant there is. My pain is maybe Fibromyalgia (idk if I believe) and psoriatic arthritis. (maybe, hard to diagnose) I've had two major neck surgeries and starting to have sciatica. Ugh...I will stop writing now. Thanks for letting me rant. Please, please don't get addicted. It's hell.

As much as I enjoy the calming and head-emptying effects of (state legal) cannabis, I had a real night-and-day difference with starting Escitalopram. • Coty

        661d

@Mattman have you ever had issues trying to decrease or cease klonopin? 3mg is a lot, I was on clonazepam for years on a low dose and suddenly ceased because doctors don’t like to prescribe it anymore and I’ve had the most horrific side effects of ceasing this medication and the doctor just says oh “it will pass” only problem is it won’t stop and most days I feel so anxious I could die……it’s so uncomfortable and I am starting to feel like there’s no end to the pain and anxiety over it. Any information would help thank you 🙏🏻

        • Agoraphoby3

          634d

@Coty I was on Klonopin for 8 years when my Rx got stolen and I had to cold turkey withdrawal. It was the most insane nightmare Ive ever been through. Honestly, the severe withdrawal lasted 3 mos and it took about a year before I felt somewhat normal. I was off of klonopin for 5 years when I ended up getting serotonin syndrome and now Im back on a low dose uhhhg. Things that helped withdrawal are benadryl I swear, that will help alot, lavender tea increases gaba, excersize, tons of excersize/yoga. Vitamin C is also a natural tranquilizer. Or you could ask your doctor for a low dose of seroquel 25mg broke in half. How long were you on klonopin??

Nope. The doctors around here refuse to prescribe anything except for Gabapentin, which does nothing for me. They want me to go to a pain management program, but none will take my case because they said that I need one with a spine stimulation machine, and none around me offer that So I wake up, every single day, just to be in pain. 😥

          627d

@Oreos I lost all my teeth from gabapentin, according to my dentist. There's no going back once the gabs start affecting the mouth. Stay off, get off! Also, did you know among the side effects, you'll find several major ones that sound exactly the fibromyalgia symptoms I was taking it to help. Side effects same as fibro symptoms. They had me taking 600 mg/4 X's daily. Now I'm down to 200 mg bid. For some people, weaning off of it can take more than a year because the incremental drops in dosage had to be so little to avoid detox symptoms.

        • mysterygirl

          644d

@Oreos never did a thing for my pain or anxiety. On suboxone( has small amt naltraxone in it) and klonopin for anxiety. I also take small amt amphetemine for energy but it can me anxious, as hell Live inFL and they are always 1-2 weeks late with sub & amphetamine. They don't make up for the time that they're out of stock. If you live in FL or conservative state ask for more than you need, so you won't go into withdrawal every month. They bought out all the small pharmacies and are understaffed, stressed out and don't give a darn b/c state doesn't want anyone on controledsubstances. Never had this problem anywhere but here. It could be the area you live in too. If it has religious local gov, they'll make it very hard to get your meds. If you can get your meds from a pharmacy in a more liberal area, it's easier. I lived in GA( religious & conservative) except for Atlanta & Athens( that's where I lived) Had no problem getting sub, on time or 1-2 days, every month

@Oreos honestly, I don't even take it. I have read terrible things about it and it hasn't helped at all from the first day that I started taking it. They started me on 100mg 3 times a day and increased it to 400mg 3 times a day and still didn't help. I need something that will actually help me. I am tired of suffering and the doctors just don't care.

@Tortilla Yeah, I get this tincture, 4:1 cbd to thc ratio, from the dispensery. It's great for quieting my mind because there's nothing worse than being physically doped up from your meds so unable to get up and do things but unable to shut your brain off enough to sleep despite being stuck in bed. I've found that the 4:1 mix is subtle but gets the job done so if you're really suffering from insomnia instead of just wanting a legal way to get high, they're amazing. If all you care about is getting high, the 4:1 tincture isn't going to do much for you. But I still call it a wonder drug because I spent a decade trying all kinds of different insomnia remedies and none of them worked. Not Lunesta, not ambien, not melatonin, not scented candles combined with delta wave music or whatever you call that synth stuff that has those frequencies in it that are supposed to help with sleep combined with a loona dreamscape. I do recommend against delta 8 gummies that you can pick up at places like vapor maven etc, for insomnia or anything else for that matter. Before I had my medical card I tried them and I had an incident where I lost the ability to swallow for a few hours. It wasn't affecting my breathing but my mind was panicking over it as badly as if it were. Not a fun experience. I was doped up from my normal meds, and I didn't want to fall asleep till I was sure I wasn't gonna stop breathing, so I was having to pace the house with great difficulty. Probably should have woken my parents but mom works and dad is in constant pain so if he's actually asleep I don't like to ruin it for him because he needs whatever he can get. But anyway, the reason I tried delta 8 is because I knew cannabis helped with the insomnia and delta 8 is a kind of thc, one that's federally legal. But after that incident, I decided I should get my card instead. It's not worth the risk... and even though delta 8 is totally legal, it'll make you pop positive on a drug test anyway or so I've read since then. So it's a bad choice for people with jobs that drug test or who have pain doctors that won't prescribe anymore if you pop positive, even if you aren't particularly worried about the no-swallowing incident.

@Tortilla yes! For me there hasn’t been a single medication they’ve tried to give me that worked on tears to the shoulder. Surgery or live with the pain was my options… I tried cannabis and wow. I could finally do things a little better not 100% but a little more is better than the nothing before so for me that’s a miracle.

        • Tlovell

        @Tortilla enjoy the lung cancer

        • MeeB333

          591d

@Tetra - @Vidya is right, if you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say anything at all… Not only is your comment extremely rude, insensitive & unnecessary, but it is also profoundly misinformed & ignorant. Half of the country would have lung cancer, if pot was likely to cause such illness. Even weed you get “on the street” is far less likely to have even a fraction of the chemicals that are in cigarettes, & medical grade cannabis is infinitely safer than most prescribed drugs on the market today. Granted, smoking any substance is not great for your lungs, but it’s the carcinogenic fillers (over 7000 chemicals & at least 250 are known to be harmful!) in cigs that will kill you. However, this is why a lot of people who use cannabis for medicinal purposes use vaporizers/vapes & edibles, so your comment proves that you know nothing about its usage. Please, educate yourself, & try to refrain from making such negative and ill-informed comments on this app, as this is supposed to be an open & positive platform for people struggling with health issues. This isn’t Facebook!! :/ Your (lack of) reasoning & anti-cannabis bias is antiquated & ignorant. For many people, cannabis is essential to our daily functioning. Doctors have prescribed it to their most critically ill & terminal patients for many years now. Do you think that they would do this if it was so supposedly toxic & dangerous? Their credo (from Hippocratic Oath) is “First, do no harm.” Cannabis is a life-saving essential medication to a lot of people, &, while continued research & study are imperative for any controlled substance, cannabis’ general lack of serious side effects & safety record are far better than any kind of addictive opiate, in my humble opinion. :)

        • MeeB333

          591d

@Toro - The “munchies” are actually caused by dehydration effects of pot, & our bodies often confuse thirst with hunger, so that is why people get an insatiable desire to eat. I’ve been self-medicating for about 2 & a 1/2 decades, & only gained weight from it when I first started, but, as soon as I found out that this feeling is actually thirst, & not actually true hunger, I started carrying a water bottle with me at all times(Good to do anyway, as most people are chronically dehydrated!!), & this solved the problem! Drink more water. :-)

        • TexAss

          605d

@Toro I stopped getting the munchies all the time when I figured out more of my allergens that were in the food I ate and changed my diet. Less swelling from allergens in the gut, makes the body not trick the mind into low sugar cravings and hyperglycemic fits.

      • Melady

        668d

@princessbun my pain doctor prescribed it to me. I'm still titrating and only on 1.5 mg so far. Eventually I'll take 3mg daily. Do far- I've not noticed anything good or bad. I'm really hoping to feel a difference in the next few weeks. I'll check back and let you know.

        • mysterygirl

          636d

@Melady i do fairly well with 3mg daily for my body aches. Narcs act against your energy system( simplifed) so I take as little as possible. It gives u energy, at first, but it stops and you have o keep increasing the dose which works t keep lowerng your energy. It's a no win, so I take the least amt that I can. Sometimes I ache, but mostly it works. I've been on hard narcs and they destroyed my energy & life, eventually. If we could just stop getting meds to treat our symptoms and find out what meds will treat our condition...it would be a life changer.
