No matter how hard I keep trying I just feel like I'm falling farther and farther behind. I have been trying to get migraine meds for 2 weeks now and I'm still waiting for it to get transfered to a specialty pharmacy... trying not to go back to the hospital but that seems like the only thing that makes them listen, is ER admission.

@DariaFae I hope whatever you decide, whether you go with the depakote again or not, that it works out for you! Don't be discouraged about not losing weight on Topiramate. I was in full wedding-planning mode (aka super stressed) & not focused on eating my 3 a day. My body was telling me I wasn't hungry (when I actually DID need to eat), and bc I was distracted being too focused on planning my wedding- I skipped meals. Now that I'm fully aware of what caused the weight loss & I'm also not completely absorbed in that world of stress everyday, I've managed to gain half of what I lost back! Which puts me at a healthy weight for my age/height. I believe in you, if you believe in you too- change will come. Mindset is a huge factor (:
Depakote worked for me in the past for a while but then stopped... maybe I should suggest that one again... I forgot about that. And drat lol... I wish I was losing that much weight on Topamax lol I haven't noticed anything yet and I'm within my second month.

Bc topiramate does not cause weight gain, it can cause weight loss & be used for losing weight. My doctor has told me this as I lost a lot of weight & I didn't know why it was happening to me, she told me it was bc of this medication. You can simply Google "does topiramate cause weight gain or weight loss?" And get a clear answer. I only suggested Cove bc of accessibility bc the original post was saying they were struggling with access to their migraine medication. I know it's not for everyone, but I also know some people don't know it even exists as an option

I actually might have just come to realization that I get migraines right before my period every month when they are the worst and last the longest. I just had a 4-day long migraine that went away when my period came. But most days I still have headaches. I finally got on a once-a-month migraine shot. They told me after 2-3 treatments I should see improvement. Also, I even used to take Benadryl to wake me up but the IV version knocks me out. Also, I have a high pain tolerance too and most pain meds don't work either. There's something about the mixture that just works. And they have different versions as well if there's something you can't take. I think they gave me something that started with a C instead of Reglan and it was the worst for me. I felt soo groggy after. Either way, there are several different options.
@DariaFae are you on a pill birth control? I was on a pill birth control (w/ awful periods) & had migraines & got a new GYN & they said I should've never been put on the pill w/ my migraines cause I could've had a stroke. I'm doing the depo shot for birth control now & don't even get my period anymore
@Kittypop No birth control for me. That stuff can cause weight gain and I'm fat enough lol
I get my migraine meds from Cove! You might wanna give them a try if you continue to face trouble...
@Kittypop doesn't cove cost alot? I have welfare insurance and either way I still have no idea what I need. I'm trying to get into acupuncture now after my insurance switches in December to help with my back pain and my migraines. I was also thinking about some kind of electrode method too. I feel like that would actually help me.
@DariaFae they accept some forms of insurance for the initial consultation, but idk which ones. I'm getting 3 months at a time of meds, but the breakdown for mine would be $16/month for one & $20/month for the other. It may not be as cheap as what some people's insurance can get them, but accessibility is mainly why it exists. They might be able to get you discounted rates if you ask, I'm just not sure. I had the hardest time getting a doctor to prescribe anti-nausea medicine for me, so to finally not have to fight someone about it every month was worth it

Well the er always give me a migraine concoction of benadryl, Reglan and torodol or tramodol spelled wrong im sure but it works and very good. They gave me a different one before and it was the worst. I tell them I have bad reactions with anything else and I need that same concoction. The benadryl makes you pass out. You sleep for an hour until they wake you and you should be good as new and ready to go. But of course this is only a temp fix.
Bureaucracy is the worst! I really sympathize with you! My personal experience is rich in cases just like that
