I hate taking showers because when I do I feel the need to get ALL of skin off. I'm left with red scrape marks all over my body, but I can't find any information about this online. people tell me "just stop doing it" but my only coping mechanism is to not get in the shower at all because of i do i feel even more dirty than when I got in. thankfully I'm not too smelly but I know deep down that this isn't a good minds. does anyone at all experience this?

I only really have problems like this on occasion, but one thing I suggest is getting a red body scrub. It sounds like this coping mechanism is rooted in SH of some kind. Being able to feel the scrape without serious damages and see "blood" without bleeding may help. And, they do make perineal cleansers! So if you can't shower, you can still clean up + wash your hair in the sink.

Exfoliate but don't hurt yourself please. šš»
I do this too. Maybe a silicone exfoliating body scrubber? Like it had little silicone bumps that exfoliate your skin. It doesnāt leave marks and generally is better for your skin that your hand. It doesnāt always get all the skin but it helps me avoid scratching a lot of the time. You might also be able to try salistic acid or another chemical exfoliator. Just make sure you are using it according to their directions. If you donāt like the feeling of the skin and you arenāt actually hurting yourself (like the red marks fade over a few hours and there arenāt any long term scratches) then you are fineā just try to use the scrubber most of the time. If it really bother you, definitely talk to a therapist though. If you are hurting yourself, then Iād suggest talking with a therapist, looking at a dbt skill workbook online, or check out the app calm harm. Try not to beat yourself up too much here. It doesnāt sound like you are doing anything too unhealthy. So if it helps to hear it from someone else, slower in peace and no reason to feel bad about it:)
