how do I talk to my bf about the horrible things I feel? I need this pain out of me. any time I mention anything about the thoughts and feelings I have, he would tell me that he's bringing me to the "looney bin" right now, which shuts me down. he gets upset so I quit talking about it. he's been in the mental hospital and he absolutely hates it, so him telling me that makes me feel like he just wants me to shut up

have you tried telling him his comment about "the looney bin" is hurtful? don't blame or accuse, just use the "when you say ... i feel ..." model. you may also ask why he says it, and then you can work together to create a plan for how to get across whatever he's meaning to express without the hurtful wording. it's likely that the reason he is trying to "get you to shut up" is actually that he's not able to emotionally handle the dark things you're expressing - he's trying to set a boundary. if you're not seeing a therapist, you should look for one. it's their job to help you process those dark feelings, where your boyfriend is not. if it's too expensive, there are services that offer free and reduced cost therapy. organizations like schools, employers, and insurance companies often have access to lists, if you're a part of any. if not, you might try a google search to find things in your area. in the mean time, you also might try journalling. whether it's on paper or digital, it's a good way to get those thoughts out of your head without needing to worry how they might be damaging to the people around you.
