how many of you deal with migraines? if it is more of a daily thing, are you on a medication for the migraines? if so, what medication and how does it work? I'm going to be bringing this up to my PCP next week and just wondering what everyone experience is with the medication..

I have been fighting chronic migraines for years. The list of meds and alternative therapies is so long. After I tried everything, I convinced my doc to prescribe anti-anxiety meds, since I panic when I feel one coming. It has been so amazing. It stops the anxiety and usually the migraine still comes, but is more short, less intense, and I am able to observe the pain rather than feeling swallowed by it. It’s a hard sell to doctors and can only be used short term because it is very addictive, but after 2 months, my brain started calming itself without the drug and I had 3 1/2 days with zero migraine symptoms, which haven’t happened in years.

I was 2 when I first started getting daily migraines and my doctor at the time told my mom that I was too young to get migraines so she took me to a specialist. I took this small white tablet that had a slit in it nightly. I remember I had to take it if i started to get an aura and then the migraine wouldn't happen. I can't remember what it was called. I'll be asking my mom and if she remembers I'll shoot you a message with the name! I think it started with a o or p

For reference, I deal with menstrual migraines for a few days in a row each month. I didn't realize they were migraines until I described them to a new PCP and she told me that it shouldn't be that bad. (I dismissed them because I didn't have visual symptoms and because I figured it was due to my anxiety/tension) You may need to try a few meds to find the right one. I originally tried sumatriptan. Every time it made me nauseous and about 1/3 of the time it actually helped with the migraine pain. Currently I have Eletriptan. No nausea and it helps the pain 90% of the time (any breakthrough pain is managed by ibuprofen) I've found that cool packs and using tiger balm on my temples and neck tend to help as well if I can't take my meds for some reason.
