what's the best way to inform my family and friends about my eating disorder?

Perhaps you could ask everyone to join you for an evening. Explain to them you need lived ones to be there for you to discuss a delicate issue. Once everyone settles explain to them from your heart you aren't looking for comments until you explain fully what you have to get out. Set some form of rule to not interject during the discussion until you are done. Keep in mind while you are doing the right thing by reaching out, you are also opening the door to a variety of opinions and comments designed to make you feel better and soften the blow of the topic. Sometimes there's comments such as "Oh, you don't need to do this or that because you are beautiful the way you are." or my favorite.... "You know what you need to do?" These comments are really more for the person who said it. Feelings aren't fact. That's what I've heard recently. What worked for me when speaking to my family is this approach... "I'm going through a very difficult time. I need to make you aware in a very different place in life. I'm very sensitive currently and have to communicate to you what I need. I have a very small imaginary box of 'Give a f***s' only my priorities fit in this box. If what you have to say to me does not contribute to the well being of my mind or assist me with personal growth to conquer my issues then it doesn't fit in my box and it will not be discussed." This approach set serious boundaries for me while accepting help where I felt it would be of value. Please keep in mind even if topics didn't fit in my box, I would still think about it. Analyze the comments and ask yourself why the comment may have been made. Depending on who made the comment, perhaps later on you may find deeper meaning and revisit it later. Explain what your plan is. Explain your struggles. They will support you. Just tell them how YOU want that to look. Then getchee some help in the right way, support groups and counselors.
