how do you deal with the struggle of new situations when you're too afraid to ask for help?

My friend told me one day, "the only dumb question is the question that isn't asked." She went on to say, "you don't know what you don't know." Repeating that to myself has really calmed me when I need to ask for help at work, the store, anywhere. I've done this for a while now and every time it gets a little easier to ask.

It’s so hard for me to ask for help, I feel like I burden people with my problems, even like trying to find something at the store. I’d rather take a super long time to locate the one item I’m looking for myself then just ask one of the employees for help. What helps me is to picture myself as the employee and think if someone came up to me with the same question. I know I would totally love to help someone, heck especially if that’s what I’m paid to do! Does that make any sense? Just something that’s helped me 😊

If it helps, most work places want their employees to ask questions.

Hmmm... I just started a job, and I'm terrified of asking things tbh. So I kinda just pretend I'm a totally different person when I'm at work. The people there don't know me outside of work, so I can be whoever i want to be. And just know, that everyone has questions. No one knows everything, so we have to ask for help to be able to understand how things work

@carter._.16 ne too, i act as if I’m confident despite not knowing things. That I almost convince myself that’s my true self when it’s not and I’m the most insecure inside. And sometimes I don’t even know it cause I’m so high on anxiety and doin what’s needed to be done.

I tend to try and picture my self as a separate entity and try and tell myself things that I would want people to tell me. Most of the times I just try and motivate and be there for myself ( it’s a constant battle but we are trying , and it helps sometimes 🙂)
