Compassion fatigue or Burnout? Working in Rescue is never easy and definitely not for the weak, but these couple of weeks have been so heartbreaking for me. Knowing you can't save them all still never prepares you for those outcomes. As many successful ones I've had, the bad outcomes just weigh so much more. I always say I'll take a break from taking in foster cats, etc, but at the same time, taking them in is what saves me. Being able to make a difference fuels a happiness in me and keeps me out of the dark. It keeps my ball rolling and out of sinking into depressive episodes. I just keep finding myself in the middle of "this helps my mental health, but also hurts it."
