could they be using this threat to manipulate you to get something they want? especially if they know this is something sensitive to you? i’m not saying they’re an abusive person but i’m just wondering if that’s the case. it’s an unfair burden to continually put on someone else and i’ve been in your position. when my ex threatened their life after i tried moving on from the relationship i handled it by contacting their friends and family and once i was sure they were safe and out of danger i gradually cut them out of my life. it seems harsh but if this is a pattern then it’s beyond you and you’ll feel better being out of that situation where they can’t hold it over you anymore. you can’t be the only support they have for times of crisis. it’s safer for them to be in the hands of someone qualified anyways, like a crisis counselor or a trusted therapist. of course they’ll need family and friends to rely on but a romantic relationship is different. you don’t need to stay in it if it doesn’t fulfill you and it interferes with your own healing.
