What do you do to cope when you are having depression episodes? At home I have comfort things but at work it's so hard not to reach for meds for my anxiety when it's my depression in the moment and not my anxiety. I just really need coping mechanisms...please.

For me it helps to take a break during work and do something good for myself like eating something healthy or just reading an interesting article. Any thing that will make you busy and you think is good for your wellbeing or important for you.

Hi! Its sounds like when you are less busy you struggle the most. Maybe in those times you can find things that do good for you - make a nice cup of your favourite tea, eat some fruit, read something that interest you or just take a look outside the window ☺️

Also thank you everyone for caring and replying. It means a lot to me.
Sorry yall I was sleeping. I work for a soap company called Buff City Soap. I do a lot of cashier work or talking with customers. It's during the slow times that the episodes hit usually. I am on bupropion 300mg and zoloft 50mg daily. I have klonopin for when I have panic/anxiety attacks. I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss my meds with my Dr. It's just hard in the moment when my soul gets so very dark. 💜
I want to second what Goldnz4me said.
Hey. We hands a lot in common, including a live for dogs. Jane pictures on your desk or phone so you see your fur babies for a few seconds here and there. Better yet use your phone camera to record a short voice, couple minutes, to bring some love and laughter into your day. Can I ask what kind of work you do?
Just a suggestion/ question... I don't know what meds you take for your depression ( or even if you do??) ... If you are having ALOT of these "episodes" , you might want to ask your doctor to review your meds with you and evaluate their effectiveness. I'm NOT "DISMISSING" any of the other suggestions offered. I have 35+years in mental healthcare, and I know that when the right meds are used, the other things will fall into place.
Oops! Just saw that you’re struggling at work. Don’t know what you do for work, but if you can give yourself breaks in between focusing on your work by giving yourself some phone time, taking a walk, giving your brain a break (because depression makes it so hard to focus) Also making to-do lists to cross them out can feel more rewarding :)
I sometimes get up from my desk and go to the bathroom. Once I’m in the stall I’ll just sit there for a moment and close my eyes and take deep breath‘s and wait for my depressing thoughts to pass. And it usually does.
It’s a tough feeling to get out of... I usually distract myself with things I can be mindlessly entertained with (shows/movies, video games, drawing, etc) Of course it’s not good to push your problems away with distractions but when I feel an episode coming on it’s the only thing that helps.
