So I haven't gone to work for almost two weeks now. Thankfully the time off is approved so I'm not in trouble or anything but I really need to work because I have bills and debt to pay. I'm not exactly sure why I feel like I can't go but I feel a lot of anxiety when trying to leave the house and it just feels a lot safer to stay at home and avoid my responsibilities. I tend to end up doing this after a few months at every job I've had. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any tips on getting back to work?

hi everyone, i was able to make it back to work today! what I did was i wrote a detailed plan about exactly what I would do the night before. It helped to wake up earlier than I normally do so I could have time to mentally prepare. I also took a shower and ate breakfast to try and give myself some energy. I also bought a coffee and put on music while I drove to give myself something to look forward to and to keep my mind off of worrying while on my way. I also tried to constantly remind myself to just focus on getting through today and to not worry about the rest of the month or anything else that's going on rn. while at work I tried to turn my mind off and focus on one task at a time instead of staring at the clock the entire time. it was rly f-ing hard but I pushed through!! I hope those that replied saying they're struggling with the same thing are able to achieve their goalsšŸ™

I have been off work for a month because of depression and extreme anxiety. I have been working with my therapist and my plan when I go back. Iā€™m terrified to go back but I plan on having items like a stress ball or something I can touch to try and change my focus when I start to panic. She is also recommending pictures and to focus on details of the pictures to pull me out of it. I plan to take my lunch break in my car away from people so I can have time to myself. Granted I donā€™t know if these things are going to work, but I am trying to remain somewhat positive. Best of luck to everyone dealing with this. It feels great to know that Iā€™m not alone.

Yep. I haven't been able to keep a job for more than a few months to a year. I don't understand it, but I'm hoping I can stay at my current job for a while.

It always feels odd because I had little issue before and all of a sudden, I need to call in sick.

Iā€™ve had this problem with school and avoiding responsibilities because anxiety gets so bad. For me, as trite as it sounds, just taking the step to go back. Sometimes you just have to jump off the deep end and discover itā€™s not as bad as you think it is. Before I do, though I break up every step of going back into small steps. Sitting in the car and letting myself calm down, calling in to let them know youā€™re coming back, eating breakfast beforehand etc, with plenty of time with each task so it seems less daunting. Itā€™s actually really helpful.
