So, after 20 plus years, 2 different diagnoses & being on just about every anti-depressant & anti psychotic medication there is, my doctor has told me of this last one they are trying me on doesn't offer me any relief from my bi polar depression & anxiety that they want me to try electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). I'm been researching it & am not happy with a lot of the testimonials & side effects I've seen. At this point, I'm just resigning myself that this is just always going to be my life. Has anyone had any experience with ECT?

Have your treatment team tried you on lithium?

@luckylast I've seen many testimonials. A lot of them say not only did it not work, but it made them worse bc they lost some memory, etc. Even the ones who said it did work said they had to keep doing it to keep up with the relief it provides. I don't know about having to have my brain electrocuted once a week for 6 weeks every 3-4 months. They don't really know the long-term effects of it.

@Harlie unfortunately that's what I found. But working as a mental health support person I have seen some remarkable changes in people. But that was with people who had a depressive illness onlt not bipolar

Some individuals have shared their experiences with ECT, mentioning that the procedure itself is not as scary as it sounds and can be helpful for those who are not responsive to medications. However, others have reported side effects such as memory issues and physical fatigue. It's important to note that experiences with ECT can vary from person to person.
