I am an addict in recovery and ever since I got clean I've been having a hard time getting myself back to my own kind of normal I'm only just getting myself out of the bed I could really use some ideas on motivations so far my dog is my motivation right now but my husband and mother inlaw don't help me to get my life back to how I'd like it to be....

@twinmom03 I've actually decided to start a blog to get my story out there and add in a few things that I feel could of been different so hopefully if anyone who decides to read it may take the advice into their own daily lives so those same mistakes my parents and myself did don't happen again in others lives :)

First and foremost, congratulations! Recovery is a very long, hard road to travel. But it is possible!! You can't depend on anyone to help you. You have to make the life you want. I promise I know how hard it can be to get out of bed, give yourself some grace and credit! You've made a HUGE accomplishment. Maybe your body needs the rest for now. If you can't get out of bed, find a book to read. A journal to do a daily "mind dump". Ask yourself the hard questions and get to know yourself better. You'll never be the old you. But you are a new you with new experiences to process and accept. You have to find a purpose. A hobby or interest. Start small like journaling. Or drawing. Find friends you can text just to chat. Drink water! Do a 10 minute tidy. Set an alarm for 10 minutes and do anything you can in that time frame ā¤ļø Remember you are amazing and so strong!!!

Being in recovery is hard, you're doing more than enough by focusing on that. Normal might look different day to day, I take everything one small step at a time. It sounds like you might benefit from support like people also in recovery. If you haven't, maybe tell your spouse what you need from them or send them stuff to read about supporting someone through recovery and chronic pain

@cozybunbun that's good advice thank you and yes I agree but men are so hard headed... especially my ol man but I got this myself and only I can get myself to where I want and need to be. Which honestly is the best thing for me

I'm sorry you don't have the support system you need. I want to congratulate you for all of your hardwork and dedication to yourself. It takes a long time to get "back to normal" and sometimes that normal doesn't exist as it did before. But everyday you do something more for yourself, you are doing something you can be proud of and celebrate.

@Nat_Nat oh yes thank you so much my husband is still a user luckily I'm a one in a million as it don't bother me to be around it except the smell sheeeww but I've been doing groups through my Dr's office and I'm slowly learning how to just take care of myself my whole life I've been a people pleaser and now I'm learning I'm the only person who can take care of myself and also I can't control what everyone else does I can only control what I do and I've learned to just be proud of myself and that has helped me soooo much!!!
