@Nannybelle Enzymes break down food to be absorbed and used by the body. Enzyme production decreases with age resulting in poor nutrient absorption. This all starts in the pancreas. My G.I. doctor started me on enzymes after he performed an Endoscopic procedure on my pancreas. This exam determined that I needed to add enzymes to my diet.

I take Protonix 40mg, Linzess 72mg daily. During a flare-up I triple up with IBgard and enzymes. After about a day of this protocol the flare-up eases.

If you have a flare up before you can see a doctor, I actually just take advil if I’m in pain and I used to take pepto if I have diarrhea. Senna leaf extract for constipation. Monitoring my diet is really the trick during a flare up. And rest :) but definitely find a GI doctor to consult in general

@bananaz oh ok got it . My only condition that I face in a flare up is spasm like pain. I'm very careful with dairy stuff that gives me diarrhea for a day or 2 and then it's fine . It's just the spasm like pain in lower abdomen which keeps me down , and sometime is unbearable. I have appointment set up to speak to doctors here. Back in my country (INdia ) there is no medication as such given for IBS, just asked to watch the diet like crazy . So I'm hopeful I get something here that helps in flare ups.🙏

@Shibbni there are definitely a lot of options for medications for IBS here, no worries there! I have tried the majority of them but I truly hope one of them works for you and helps the pain. If you have pain and spasms i might suggest Paxil or an antispasmodic.
